Please note that registration with TechStaff does not automatically mean that you will be offered a job, or considered for every job that comes up. We go the extra distance to ensure that we meet the expectations of our clients by only putting forward candidates we consider to be the closest match to their requirements. Where we cannot identify such candidates, we will look to those who may not be a close fit, but perhaps have some attributes or experience that could be of interest. TechStaff's revenue comes solely from placing candidates and whilst we are not one of those outfits that inundates clients with every candidate imaginable, we will work hard to get a positive outcome for both client and candidate. |

| Overseas Candidates |
| |
We frequently receive applications from people living outside New Zealand, and that in itself is not a problem, but in many cases they are oblivious to the location of the job or where we are located. The location of the job is always clearly stated, but that seems to escape some people. |

We have no real problem accepting applications from overseas, but for purely logistical reasons, such candidates will always be at a disadvantage compared to those who reside in New Zealand and are available for a face to face interview at short notice. Technology has brought huge advances in real time video communication and this is certainly used by some organisations for an initial shake up, but there is no substitute for sitting down with a candidate in person. Availability can also be an issue where a candidate needs to sell a house and arrange shipping of household goods etc. before they can take up a position here in New Zealand |

Without doubt though, the biggest hurdles facing applicants from overseas are immigration, and if from a country where English is not the first language, communication. Applicants from such countries will always state in their CVs that they have either fluency or at least a very good command of English, but reading the CV tells us otherwise. |

It's worth commenting on the immigration process. Ample information is available to the New Zealand Immigration Dept., but just because a person meets all of the requirements for residency, it does not mean they will find it easy gaining employment in their field. As a government department, decisions on who meets the criteria for residency or work visas are made by bureaucrats. They will read a person's application and see that they have a degree and have held responsible positions with big companies doing highly technical work etc. The boxes get ticked and the person eventually arrives with their family, and with high expectations. Regrettably, when their experience is scrutinized more closely by qualified people it may be found lacking. This is not to say that everybody from overseas has somehow exaggerated their experience or skills, or has poor English. Many who come to New Zealand have obtained good jobs in their profession and advanced to senior positions with prestigious companies. The sad fact is that many others have not found New Zealand to be as accommodating as they had hoped, and this can be for any number of reasons. |

| Check List |

Do you meet all of the requirements set down by the New Zealand government? |
| |
Most NZ companies will not make a job offer to a candidate from overseas in order for them to meet the above criteria |
| |
What you consider to be good English may not be considered good enough by employers |
| |
Are you prepared to travel to New Zealand at your own cost, with no certainty that you will find suitable employment? |
| |
| |
In any case, if you do register or apply for a job from overseas, you will receive a reply advising whether or not we could be in a position to help. If you do not meet the prerequisites relating to eligibility, it will not be worthwhile approaching TechStaff because the answer will be no. |
